A week ago, I joined 507 other women for the She Speaks conference in North Carolina (Hey Ya’ll!). Saying that it was informative and enriching is an understatement. This conference has become such a rich and sweet piece to my personal writing journey. I went into the conference not sure what to expect as a first-timer; all I knew was that attending was the next right step to take to educate myself on the process of becoming a better writer. I knew there would be a massive amount of knowledge from all of the guest speakers on the schedule, and they did not disappoint. My biggest take away though, was the fact that each speaker and message, directed us all back to the importance of self- examination and digging for why we are on this journey.
We have to look deep into our heart to see what the motivation is for each of us.
Is it for fame? Is it for recognition? Is it to be noticed and loved by many?
It shouldn’t be any of these things.
If we are in this business of presenting these messages and stories to the world, it needs to be for the honor and glory of God, not the recognition or approval of the masses.
We’ll never find meaning chasing after recognition for ourselves. We will come up empty every time if we make it about us. We will, however, find our hope and strength with every stroke of the pen (yep, I’m old school like that), with every click of the keyboard, and with every word uttered in the Name of Jesus.
Character building is at the heart of our journey. God doesn’t miss a thing with His vision. He sees it all.
Our past & present,
Our motivation &/or lack there of,
Our tears & anguish on the road we’ve traveled,
Even our joy and excitement…
He sees it all.
Over and over I heard whispers from God to my own soul of, “Will it still be worth it if you get no recognition? Will you still call Me worthy through the disappointments and struggles on this journey when I am trying to work in your own heart? Will your joy remain as I do things in My timing, and not in your timing? ”
Yes, Lord.
Even then.
Friend, I don’t know what kind of journey you find yourself on today or what challenges you are facing with your personal assignment. What I do know is that we are all given a choice to either walk it out in the peace and grace of God or fight against Him every step of the way trying to do His job.
We can’t do both.
Let’s remember that we don’t have to be at a conference for God to whisper to us. He often speaks to us behind closed doors when no one else sees the work we are putting into our God-given assignments. His voice can be heard when we are asking tough questions internally and feeling overwhelmed with doubt. Even through tears, uncertainty, and silence…He can breathe hope, life, and healing. Maybe today we can all take a minute and ask Him to search us, and ask Him to show us how to live out our trust in Him on our own journey.
Whether you’re in the car, or in line at the store, let’s all take a moment to get quiet before The Lord today and listen for His voice. Friend, your message matters to The Lord and the lessons of your journey are important to Him and vital to those around you. Let’s listen together today for the whispers of Our Father.
Peace -liz
Go the extra mile: One of the songs from the conference that has really stuck with me was “You Don’t Miss A Thing” by Bethel Music. Check it out today, and remember that you are seen, known, and loved by God.

Great recap! No matter what we do in this life, I think it is a great reminder to ask ourselves, “Will we still use our talents for him even if we receive 0 recognition?”. Tough question. But it will be worth it.

My soul needed this reminder, it was strange after SheSpeaks (and even though we talked about it specifically) my “pride monster” started roaring inside wanting and expecting recognition and praise. After I realized this I stopped all social media outreach and examined my motives, the Lord showed me a way to combat that feeling by asking myself “if this post were anonymous and they would never know it was me, would I still comment/like/write?) it is nice to know have such an encouraging reminder of what we are doing and more importantly WHO we are doing it for.
Thanks for stopping by my blog also, I would love to meet up next year if you plan on attending again 🙂
