Light Will Come

My favorite Christmas verse is found in Luke. It’s not the common verses chosen to grace the front of Christmas cards or adorn sparkling ornaments. Yet, this verse encapsulates what was about to happen with the arrival of Jesus, and what continues to happen every time we receive Him in our daily lives. Let me share it with you:

I’m sure I don’t have to tell you, but this world can feel pretty dark. Whether it’s because of the brokenness within us, the brokenness between us, or the brokenness around us, some days we can feel the weight of it all and it can overwhelm our souls.

Because of distance, loss, or grief, our spirits may be experiencing a heaviness, making it feel like more of a challenge to take part in the merriment and joy that are part for this season.

That’s why I’m grateful that this portion of scripture includes the heavy; this portion of scripture doesn’t dismiss the hard parts. God’s Word shows us that Jesus, The Dawn From On High, came right into the middle of our darkness. And we find that Jesus keeps coming to visit us- coming to those who are living in between what may feel so dark and to those who are walking through the very shadow of death.

The best news ever is that, because of the brilliant light of Jesus, we can be led to see a way forward.

The darkness and heaviness of this weary world may try to fool us that it is only going to stay dark. The enemy of our soul may try to whisper that “things will always be this way”.

Don’t believe the darkness.

Don’t believe the heaviness or hopeless feeling.

Believe this: Jesus has come – for all of us.

His light broke through the heaviness to address the heartache of humanity.

My Christmas prayer for us this season is that we would be keenly aware of the love and mercy of God that came to bring hope to our own weary world. Friends, let’s remember: On the good days and even in the hard seasons, The Dawn From On High will visit us again, and again, and again. And because of His merciful compassion, He will lead our feet into the way of peace.

Peace within us.

Peace between us.

Peace around us.

Peace for the way forward.

Peace in the darkness because of His light.

The Light of Christ did come. The Light of Christ continues to come each and every day.

This is the good news that will cause great joy.

Merry Christmas to you and yours, wherever you find yourself today.

Peace – Liz
